Privacy Policy

My Utility Forge is operated by Glenn Chalmers. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. Information we collect

We collect only the information you actively provide to us:

• Email enquiries: when you contact us at glenn@myutilityforge.com, we receive your email address and the content of your message.
• Purchase information: when you make a purchase, payment is processed by PayFast. We receive confirmation of the transaction but do not store your card or banking details — these are handled entirely by PayFast.

We do not run analytics, tracking pixels, or any third-party scripts on this website. We do not collect data passively.

2. How we use your information

• To respond to your enquiries and provide customer support.
• To fulfil your purchase and deliver the product.
• To send you important updates about a product you have purchased (e.g. security patches), if applicable.

We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. MailMaid and your Gmail data

MailMaid is a self-hosted desktop application. It connects to your Gmail account directly on your own machine using Google's OAuth 2.0 flow. Your emails and Gmail credentials are never transmitted to our servers — all processing happens locally on your computer. The only tokens stored are on your own device.

4. Third-party processors

• PayFast — processes payments on our behalf. Their privacy policy governs how they handle your payment data: payfast.co.za.
• Cloudflare — hosts and delivers this website. Cloudflare may log basic request metadata (IP address, browser type) for security and performance purposes. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

5. Data retention

We retain email correspondence for as long as necessary to resolve your query, and no longer than 12 months unless a legal obligation requires otherwise. Purchase records are retained for 5 years in accordance with South African tax requirements.

6. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

• Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate information.
• Request deletion of your information where we no longer have a lawful basis to retain it.
• Object to processing of your personal information.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
